Winchester
Systems Offers
Disaster Recovery
Solutions
Affordable
Disaster Recovery
Up To 120 km
Burlington,
MA. November 13,
2001 -
Winchester Systems
has introduced
a series of three
fibre channel
based Disaster
Recovery solutions
for IT managers
to replicate critical
data to remote
sites up to 120
km distant.
The
company offers
three basic configurations.
A Workgroup Disaster
Recovery solution
offers data replication
to a mirror server
and disk array
within a building
via point-to-point
fibre channel.
The Departmental
Disaster Recovery
solution offers
data replication
to another site
at up to 120 km
using switched
fibre channel
connections. The
Enterprise Disaster
Recovery solution
offers data replication
to a remote site
with redundant
paths and redundant
switches for the
highest level
of fault tolerance
and reliability.
"A
disaster recovery
site needs to
record data promptly
to avoid impacting
the primary application,
so the legendary
speed of FlashDisk
OpenRAID systems
for disaster recovery
sites make them
ideal for this
application,"
according to Mr.
Jerry Namery,
the company's
chief technology
officer. "For
disaster recovery
sites within 120
km, fibre channel
connections provide
high speed, reliable
connectivity for
the highest performance,
mission critical
applications,"
he added.
Data
Replication
With direct fibre
channel connections,
data can be replicated
with simple host
based mirroring
to independent
FlashDisk arrays.
For more demanding
applications,
Winchester Systems
offers Veritas
Intelligent Disaster
Recovery (IDR)
software with
all of the Disaster
Recovery solutions.
The Veritas IDR
software intelligently
manages the data
workload across
multiple connections
to maximize data
throughput and
to use alternate
data paths in
the event of path
failure. It also
permits the primary
and disaster recovery
sites to run asynchronously
to maximize the
performance of
the primary site.
Data
Recovery
When disaster
recovery data
needs to be retrieved,
the network can
just access the
data directly
using either the
primary or the
secondary server
without copying
the data. This
direct access
approach saves
countless hours
of data copying
in the event that
the disaster recovery
image data is
needed.
Field
Proven Technology
FlashDisk Disaster
Recovery solutions
rely only on field
proven FlashDisk
OpenRAID disk
arrays, fibre
channel technology,
host based mirroring
and popular Veritas
software. Disaster
Recovery solutions
can be installed
quickly, taking
no longer than
conventional data
storage to install
and maintain.
High
Performance
Each FlashDisk
OpenRAID disk
array at the primary
or disaster recovery
site delivers
up to 13,000 sustained
disk operations
per second and
up to 121 Mbytes
per second sustained
data throughput.
For increased
reliability with
redundant controllers,
and higher performance
for disaster recovery
operations, FlashDisk
offers active/active
failover RAID
controllers. The
dual controller
configuration
delivers higher
data throughput
with 177 MB per
second sustained
data transfer.
Centralized
Management
All FlashDisk
OpenRAID units
are easily managed
out-of-band over
IP using a secure
web console, called
FlashConsole,
for centralized
storage management
of both primary
and disaster recovery
sites. FlashConsole
enables installation
and maintenance
of all the storage
and server connections
and provides error
monitoring and
alert notification
via e-mail and
pager.
"Open"
Architecture
FlashDisk OpenRAID
disk arrays are
true hardware,
plug-and-play
storage. FlashDisk
OpenRAID disk
arrays are the
key storage component
of the Disaster
Recovery solutions.
For simplicity
and compatibility,
FlashDisk OpenRAID
emulates standard
disks --eliminating
proprietary host
software, RAID
managers and the
need for software
drivers or agents
of any kind. FlashDisk
OpenRAID supports
hardware RAID
1, 3, 5, 1+0 and
RAID 15 for data
protection. The
disk arrays attach
via industry standard
SCSI and fibre
channel interfaces
to host servers
including SUN,
HP, IBM, Intel
and MAC.
Price
and Delivery
A Workgroup Disaster
Recovery Solution
with two FlashDisk
OpenRAID disk
arrays with 434.4
MB storage each
starts at $38,061
each. Delivery
is 2-3 weeks.
