Winchester Systems Announces SATA Systems with 500 GB Drives
Supports up to 400 TB of Storage in a Single RAID System

Burlington, MA. October 5, 2005 - Winchester Systems, Inc., a leading data storage solutions company, today introduced Hitachi's industry leading capacity 500 GB disk drives in its entire FlashDisk® line of Serial ATA (SATA) disk arrays.

All of the company's FlashDisk SATA arrays now incorporate the Deskstar 7K500 disk drives. Various FlashDisk models include 12, 16 or 24 drives to provide capacities of 6 TB, 8 TB or 12 TB in a single enclosure. The company's expandable SATA arrays support up to 64 drives for a total capacity of 32 TB. Where the ultimate in scalability is required, the company offers Enterprise (FX604e) and Archive (SA-700) versions that support up to 800 drives and 400 TB within a single system as a SATA Archive and up to 224 drives and a maximum capacity of 112 TB as Enterprise SATA with redundant failover controllers.

"Today a single 24-drive FlashDisk enclosure with 12 TB stores 1,344 hours of HDTV, 3 million 4-minute MP3 recordings or 1.2 million 10 MB medical images. Our scalable Enterprise SATA system with 112 TB holds nearly 10 times those amounts under a single pair of failover controllers," according to Mr. David Geene, the company's vice president for sales and marketing. "These systems offer the highest density, lowest cost and superior reliability for all storage intensive applications including medical imaging, video and audio editing, web services, remote data backup, snapshot images, local mirroring, virtual tape libraries, security and surveillance, satellite images, pre-press and more," he added.

Included with every FlashDisk data storage solution is the FlashConsole appliance, providing complete centralized management using any browser-based workstation on the LAN. FlashAlert, a 24-hour "call-home" remote monitoring and alert service is also included for one year. A single FlashConsole can manage up to 16 SA-700 systems or 6.4 petabytes of data.
