Global Cable & Wire Company Trades in Entire Legacy Storage for FlashDisk Organization Profile - www.cm-corp.com Founded in 1994 in Wauregan, Connecticut, C&M Corporation has emerged as a global leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of power and signal transmission products used in industrial, mobile and data communications, and bar code applications. The extensive product line consists of superior bulk cable, and coil cord and cable assembly solutions, such as the QuadClear Fibre Channel Cables for data communications applications. C&M owns a 350,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility on 72 acres in Wauregan, and has manufacturing facilities in Europe, Mexico, and Asia. FlashDisk Customer Profile As Told By C&M Corp. At C & M we realized that our computer system couldn't keep up with the company's fast growth rate. We decided to replace our entire system, application software, and network. Panega Systems, a database consulting firm in Plymouth, Massachusetts, helped us to get up and running on our Oracle database with the Oracle Application's Enterprise Reporting Processing Systems. We selected a Hewlett-Packard server to run this application on the HP UX operating system. When it came to high-performance, external RAID storage for the server, I, naturally, looked at what Hewlett-Packard had to offer, along with EMC. A consultant for Panega Systems suggested that I look at Winchester Systems' FlashDisk. He had experience with this storage system. I liked the FlashDisk's price, and the performance specifications. But what won me over was the chance to try out the FlashDisk. At the time, I was putting up a test system with Oracle and needed some disk storage. The FlashDisk trial system allowed me to set up a test system for my application, and, at the same time, test out the FlashDisk. The other vendors didn't offer me a trial system. I was impressed with the FlashDisk's performance. It seemed to live up to the performance specifications I had seen in the literature and in published product reviews. I also liked the FlashDisk's built-in redundancy. In fact, one of WSI's engineers, put the FlashDisk's pedal to the metal before my eyes. He walked into the computer room and pulled out a power supply. The FlashDisk kept running. If you pull out a disk drive, the FlashDisk rebuilds the drive without any interruption. The thoroughness of how the FlashDisk's design contributes to its reliability and performance convinced me to go with Winchester Systems. Everything has been working fine since we installed the FlashDisk, which supports two servers. We haven't had to tune the Oracle Applications to increase the response speed to the 75 concurrent users, which Oracle supports. Future Applications to Hit the FlashDisk During this year, we'll be taking a closer look at e-commerce. We're looking at Oracle 11I for the application software. As for storage, we've room in the current FlashDisk. If we do need to go with another storage system, we'd definitely select Winchester Systems' FlashDisk.
