FlashDisk Allows Mall Developer to Expand Microsoft SQL Database System The Oganization - www.taubman.com Founded in 1950 by entrepreneur A. Alfred Taubman, Taubman Centers, Inc. (NYSE: TCO) has emerged as one of the preeminent developers, owners, and managers of shopping centers in the United States. The Taubman Centers' portfolio currently owns and or manages 28 urban regional and super-regional shopping centers in 12 states, and has four malls under development. Together, this portfolio represents the country's most productive retail properties averaging about $384 per sq. foot as compared with $200 per sq. ft., the national average for all regional malls. Located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Taubman Centers supports it portfolio with comprehensive in-house capabilities in leasing, construction, planning and design, finance, market and consumer research, public affairs, marketing, retail analysis, and center operations. FlashDisk Customer Profile As Told By Taubman About a year ago, we had one of the first Compaq 6000 superservers with 18.2GB drives in a RAID 5 configuration. Frequently individual drives would go offline. To keep the drive from failing completely, we had to pull it out and push it back in. Also, the RAID 5 capability allowed the system to decrypt the RAID segment of that particular offline drive. This model drive apparently had this quirk and Compaq eventually came out with an 18.2GB drive. For the past six months, Winchester's FlashDisk, along with its upgrades, has been the Logistics IS department's sole storage resource. It has allowed us to get the most for our money, and to retain our computer system and software longer than we had anticipated. We couldn't risk having a drive go offline and fail completely or loose data, nor could we wait for a new model drive. This critical superserver supports 1,500 users who access 150 Windows NT SQL databases consisting mostly of leasing and construction information. Winchester Systems' FlashDisk offered a highly reliable system at a decent price. The FlashDisk provides enough storage capacity and horsepower to handle more databases and users. The FlashDisk runs about 30 percent to 40 percent faster than what we had before. If you look at people across four time zones having access to 150 databases via a wide area network, the FlashDisk's increase in performance can make a difference in how quickly people get access to what they want. What's more, the FlashDisk easily stepped in without causing any downtime. It has been solid ever since we installed it. We haven't had to touch it.
